Curly Hair Care
Curly hair? Wavy hair? Hair that does both? I am your stylist! I specialize in curly hair of all types. Curly hair is broken down into categories or patterns of curls.
I wanted to create a page that includes a lot of tips and trick that I explain behind the chair. I know it’s a lot of information to absorb while having your hair done, so this can be your reference to come back to.
Curl Types
Every head of curly hair is unique. One head of curls can have multiple curl patterns. The charts are a way to help identify your curl patterns. Each type of curl requires different levels of moisture and care to ensure well-formed healthy curls.
The texture of hair has absolutely nothing to do with race. Hair is, in fact, a unique fabric, and just like various fabrics require different levels of special care and attention, some hair types also need more specialized care to keep them looking fabulous. Understanding and embracing these differences is essential for achieving the best results!
Curly/ Wavy Hair Styling Tips
-
Serums are great for adding moisture and smoothness to the curls
Mouse is a great curl retention but often will leave a cast on the hair. This can be gently broken up and keeps the retention. You dry the hair fully, allowing the hair to become crunchy. Then taking a serum or oil, gently break down the cast.
Creams help add hold to curls but still leaves the touchable and soft.
Gels have optimal hold but do need to be gently broken down, or the hair will be crunchy.
Oils should only be used on dry hair. Oil repels water and curls need a lot of water.

Curly hair needs more moisture than you think. A lot of water is necessary to get a frizz free style.
Your hair should be wet but not dripping when you add product to your hair.
As you apply the product to the hair you want to work in sections applying the product. It's important to distribute the product through the hair evenly from root to tip.
Scrunch the product into the hair until you hear a squish squash sound.
If a more defined curl pattern is desired, use a brush to curl the hair, or finger roll small sections.
-
To get waves or curls more elongated, hover the diffuser over the area.
To get the curls and waves tighter scrunch the curls with the diffuser.
You can diffuse the curls most of the way and then let airdry.
-
Wavy hair needs more products and styling to get optimal volume and shape.
Wavy hair without products will fall flat faster and even appear straight.
Using a curl brush to help form waves and create volume at the base is the best for styling waves.
